ROckiT.

We help startups build their engineering teams. Our vision is to be experts at hiring - people matter, and hiring is too important to be left to amateurs. Sound good? Join us!

abouT

We have hired >500 software engineers, product managers, and designers for >200 Bay Area startups; we are the experts.

PHILOSOPHY:

1. Be transparent, be an expert in recruiting and startups, be a good person.

2. Internally, recruiters should have the freedom and flexibility to develop their own style of success.

TRACK RECORD:

  • We have been referred to and have hired for companies like SpaceX, Uber, Docker, Cruise, Airbnb, Nextdoor, DJI, and hundreds of others.

  • Our recruiters don't do business development - our clients are referred to us due to the reputation and partnerships we have built.

  • We don't offer discounts - expert hiring commands a premium, and our 25% price point leads to average fees of ~$37k.

  • 80% of our deals involve 2 recruiters working 2 gether - teamwork!

  • We pay for our experts - salaries range from $50-100k, commissions go up to 30% depending on level, and despite having 2 recruiters on most deals, we don't make you split your commissions.

  • As you continue your career with RockIT, your earnings grow too (on average >40%) - our aim is for our senior recruiters to out-earn the engineers they help hire and our principals/leads to out-earn the execs they advise.

  • The VC partners who refer business to us include Accel, A16Z, Greylock, Sequoia, KPCB, and many more.

  • If you're still not convinced, check out our Glassdoor and Quotes.

TS2 + FUTURE:

In Feb 2018, TS2 acquired RockIT, Neohire (a boutique recruiting company in LA), and Hero (a recruiting software company) to create a specialized recruiting powerhouse, taking on Silicon Valley, Silicon Beach...and beyond! What does this mean?

  • More resources: experienced leaders, training, marketing, growth.

  • More collaboration: we've already had recruiters from LA and SF teaming up on deals with engineers looking to relocate and expand the scope of startups they interview with.

  • Opportunity in new geographies: as we grow, we will take on new markets which opens the chance for recruiters to take their careers to new geographies too.

  • Same RockIT, New Name - alas we'll be retiring the outdated logo and space puns, but as we rebrand in the coming months we will find a name and message that speaks to the vision of hiring experts, expanded reach, and proprietary software that we now cover.

We know why we love RockIT...but here is what some of our current and past employees have to say.

What's not to like about RockIT? I was so fortunate to have gotten my first taste of recruiting at RockIT, an agency that was unlike any other. Truly. The team cares deeply about honest, relationship-based recruiting and invests heavily into the success of their team in workshops, trainings, team outings, and much more. You won't find many agencies who have built a model that just works.

I learned a lot about tech, best sourcing practices, and how to close top-tiered candidates in challenging situations. All things that someone with >1 year of experience had an opportunity to do which is definitely not normal!

My recruiting foundation was built here at RockIT and it's opened up so many doors that I never would have expected coming out of college.

Albert Liao

Tech Recruiter @ Oculus / Facebook

Working at RockIT gave me an insight into what startups do.  I learned how over 100 companies hire, and was able to work with literally 1000's of engineers to hear what they look for in companies. I was able to meet with industry specialists and go to conferences, speaking at the end of my time at RockIT.  This prepared me for all aspects of recruiting in my current role at R2AIR. Also, if you can recruit for top startups, you can handle the work at the big name tech companies easily, you just have to learn their internal process.

Working at RockIT enabled me to do all these things, while making an increase of 75% on my first year salary (80k in 9 months) and then another 50% the next two years.  Also, I had the flexibility to travel and work remotely.

I don't think I will ever have a point in my life where I enjoy working while being highly successful, and living life, as much as I did at RockIT.

Augmented Recruiting @ RockIT

In my 4+ years at RockIT I’ve had exposure to 100s of startups which has given me more insight into startup life and hiring than I could have ever imagined.

On the day to day I have the flexibility and autonomy to do my job as I like with the backing of a strong team behind me.

Christina Tamm

Principal Recruiter @ RockIT

I started working at RockIT about 1.5 years ago and have learned and grown so much. I have worked with over 20 different startups directly, placed over 20 engineers, built teams from the ground up and had so much fun while doing it.

I have had the advantage of creating my own business, mentoring other team members and helping foster our culture.

Before moving to the Bay Area and joining RockIT, my applications to semi-interesting opportunities were getting consistently rejected. A few months in, Cody introduced me to a 3-person self-driving car startup called Cruise Automation where we were able to help them make many of their early/ foundational hires that ultimately led to their $1B acquisition when they were still just a 30-person company. The success of this endeavor kicked off RockIT’s robotics division, which ultimately introduced me to my current employer, Skydio, a self-flying drone startup that would 100% not have been interested in me had I not spent those two years at RockIT.

I feel many firms try to understand and deliver solutions to a company’s most surface level needs. Working at RockIT provided me with the insight and context I needed to dig deeper and bring a more consultative approach to helping companies level-up their hiring.

Trevor King

Head of Talent @ Skydio

I enjoyed working at RockIT because it felt like a collaborative, family environment.  I knew that everyone around me had the same goal and I felt comfortable asking questions and getting advice. The office culture at RockIT allowed me to be myself.  I felt comfortable asking questions or asking for more/different responsibilities.

In comparison to the typical large agency organization, RockIT was a breath of fresh air. The autonomy was extremely nice. I wasn't micro-managed.

Outside of the tangibles, I learned a lot of intangible things at RockIT such as: How to run a meeting, how to sit down with CTO's and co-founders and discuss hiring and open roles.  It made me comfortable in that setting which helped with my overall growth.

I just think if someone is at a large, chop-shop recruiting agency, RockIT should be a no brainer.
